Motorcycle vs SUV crash

A motorcycle with two passengers collided with a vehicle near the 7400 block of Rice Lake Road at approximately 1800 hours. The driver of the motorcycle, Michael Allen Scott was pronounced dead at the scene. His female passenger was transported an area hospital with critical injuries.

County receives grant to improve behavioral health services in northern part of county

St. Louis County has received nearly $100,000 to work with community partners to develop the Mesabi Behavioral Health Network (MBHN). The grant is from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through the Heath Resources and Services Administration. The MBHN is a collaborative group of community members and providers whose mission is to improve the behavioral health and wellbeing of individuals and families in the northern half of St. Louis County.

Structure Fire Brevator Township

On July 4, 2023 at 10:35 PM, the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and local fire departments responded to a report of a structure fire in the 3600 block of Highway 33 in Brevator Township. It was reported by a passerby that a shed and camper were on fire. The owners were contacted, who were not home, and responded to the scene. There was no loss of life and there were no injuries as no one was home at the time of the fire.

Car in lake Fredenberg Township

On July 4, 2023, at 7:24 PM, local first responders were called for a car in the lake in the 6900 block of Bear Island Road in Fredenberg Township. Upon responders' arrival it was determined that the vehicle was unoccupied. Through investigation it was determined that a 17-year-old male driver, sole occupant, had lost control on the wet pavement, due to recent rain. The juvenile male swerved to miss a tree which resulted in the vehicle going into the lake. He was able to exit the vehicle on his own power. There were no injuries and there were no signs of impairment.

St. Louis County launches campaign to stop HIV spread

June 27 is National HIV Testing Day, and St. Louis County is working with community partners to share the message about the importance of getting tested, as well as treatment options that can be successful for anyone who tests positive.

St. Louis County - specifically Duluth and a 30-mile radius around it - has been experiencing an outbreak of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) since 2019. Prior to that, the county saw between zero to five newly infected individuals in a year. However there have been 37 individuals newly confirmed to be infected in the last five years. Of those, 27 are in Duluth and 10 are in the surrounding region.
