Vibrant economy and spectacular beauty

Located in northeastern Minnesota, St. Louis County is home to 200,226 people spread across 7,092 square miles.
Known for its natural beauty and resources, St. Louis County is the gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and the greatest of the Great Lakes - Lake Superior. We also are home to Voyageurs National Park, the Superior National Forest, four state parks, 1,000 lakes, and hundreds of miles of rivers. We are the largest county east of the Mississippi River, and are larger than three states.
Our diverse communities range from the metropolitan area of Duluth, our county seat, to small mining towns, and farm regions. Population is concentrated in and around our county seat of Duluth, and along the Mesabi and Vermilion Iron Ranges.
The major industries include mining, wood and paper products, shipping, aviation, higher education, health care and tourism.
To serve the citizens of our vast county, we maintain courthouses in Duluth, Virginia and Hibbing, and a Government Services Center in Ely, plus numerous smaller offices and Public Works facilities in other towns.
