The St. Louis County Landfill, Transfer Stations and Solid Waste Drop Off sites remain open to the public. Though, due to the possibility of a staffing shortage, please call our main phone line: 218-749-9703 or 1-800-450-9278 before visiting any of our sites. We will update the message daily to alert customers if any of our locations need to close.

Beginning June 1st, Household Hazardous Waste Facilities in Virginia and Hibbing will return to normal operating hour. Virginia: Tuesday and Saturday 8am - 1pm; Hibbing Saturday 8am - 1pm.
UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:
ST. LOUIS COUNTY SOLID WASTE FACILITIES WILL ONLY ACCEPT WASTE FROM WITHIN THE ST. LOUIS COUNTY SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AREA.
On April 22, 2020, the St. Louis County Solid Waste & Septic Subcommittee unanimously approved a motion to stop accepting solid waste from residents living outside the St. Louis County Solid Waste Management Area (SWMA), with the exception of the Northwoods Transfer Station (Ely), for the duration of Governor Walz’s Emergency Executive Orders. St. Louis County Environmental Services will continue to provide essential solid waste services to citizens within the St. Louis County SWMA. The motion becomes effective immediately.”

RESIDENTS OF DULUTH AND THE WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR SANITARY DISTRICT (WLSSD):
While the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District’s Materials Recovery Center, located at 4587 Ridgeview Rd. is closed, residents provided solid waste services by WLSSD, including the cities of Duluth, Hermantown, Proctor, and Rice Lake, and the townships of Alden, Canosia, Duluth, Fredenberg, Gnesen, Grand Lake, Lakewood, Midway, Normanna, North Star, Pequaywan, Solway, and Unorganized Townships 53-15 and 54-13 are asked to consider using the following permitted solid waste disposal facilities:
