Representatives from Range Transitional Housing, St. Louis County, the City of Virginia and Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation celebrated the start of the approximately $2 million project, which is expected to open next spring. The 4,700 square foot fourplex will provide short-term housing for four families at a time with up to 16 beds. It will be located next to Range Transitional Housing's office at 220 5th Street North in Virginia.

Eric James Jarvis, 47, of Hibbing, Minnesota pleaded guilty today to First Degree Manslaughter in connection with the June 28, 2022 death of his girlfriend, Kari Jo Petrich, St. Louis County Attorney Kim Maki said.

The child was a passenger riding behind an adult operator mowing trails with an attached pull behind brush mower.
As they were mowing the 6 year old fell off of the ATV and was run over by the brush mower.  She was transported by Ambulance to the Cook hospital and then transported by North Memorial Air Care to the Minneapolis Children's Hospital with serious injuries. 

Representatives from St. Louis County, Range Transitional Housing, IRRRB, the City of Virginia and others will join together for a groundbreaking for a new shelter that will serve families experiencing homelessness in northern St. Louis County.

Rice Lake Road in Duluth will be closed to through traffic between Central Entrance and Arrowhead Road beginning Monday, August 7. The closure is necessary for the replacement of a culvert on Chester Creek. The closure and detour is expected to last through August 20. Detour signs will be posted directing people to use Arrowhead Road, Arlington Avenue and Central Entrance for the duration of the project.
