You need to apply for a driveway permit when you plan to install a permanent or temporary driveway access on a County State Aid Highway (CSAH), County Road (CR) or Unorganized Township Road (UT). If the road you are trying to gain access from does not meet this criteria, contact your local road authority (there may be multiple departments) to ensure that you are in compliance.
The first step is to request inspection for your driveway. You can request inspection by logging into your online account on the St. Louis County permit system and clicking the request inspection icon. Your driveway must pass the final inspection before the refund is issued. If you have already requested inspection and have not received your refund, you may contact St. Louis County at the phone number listed on your driveway permit. St. Louis County will typically issue the refund within five (5) business days after the driveway has been inspected and approved.
