Are you interested in gaining experience and/or becoming involved with emergency response and preparedness work? Consider some of the opportunities linked below to get involved in St. Louis County emergency operations.


  • Minnesota Responds Medical Reserve Corps (MN Responds MRC) is part of a nationwide initiative to pre-register, manage, and mobilize volunteers to help their communities respond to all types of disasters. The Minnesota Department of Health provides the framework for coordinating multiple local, regional and state based programs of volunteers who have medical, public health, or other needed skills.
  • The American Red Cross has a variety of volunteer opportunities available to support blood collection, disaster action team services and more.
  • Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) is a volunteer group of Amateur Radio Operators, also known as HAM’s, that dedicate their time to assist with emergency back-up communications. Members are licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, and are experienced and trained in communications along with equipment usage and deployment.
  • The St. Louis County Rescue Squad are volunteers trained in specialized skills to respond to calls involving wilderness search and rescue; boat and water safety; first aid; and public safety.
