The Public Health Division works to promote and protect the health of all residents in St. Louis County. Our work is done through assessing the health and environments of individuals and communities, implementing educational programs, conducting research, and recommending policies that promote health.

Public health professionals work in a variety of programs, services, and initiatives to:

  • Prevent the spread of disease
  • Support community-based systems that promote health
  • Protect against environmental hazards
  • Promote and encourage healthy behaviors
  • Plan and respond to health emergencies
  • Ensure the quality and accessibility of health services

St Louis County is part of the Carlton-Cook-Lake-St Louis Community Health Board (CHB) which is the governing public health authority for the four counties. The CHB functions under Minnesota Statute Chapter 145A

The St. Louis County Public Health Division leads in public health practice through implementing forward-thinking, population-based, prevention programs. Our practice is guided by the on-going assessment of community needs, and by maintaining internal and external partnerships. Our work is done to assure that all residents of St. Louis County will live in a healthy, equitable and safe community.
